Legionella Remedial Works to Water Systems

Anchor engineers were asked to carry out legionella prevention works to water based systems in Hampshire County Council (HCC) and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS)buildings. The awarded contract helps to  fulfil HCC and HFRS’s duties under the General Health and Safety Law and to manage the risks associated with legionella and other water hygiene issues. In addition the works are to ensure customer compliance with the Health and Safety Executive Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) and guidance for the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems (Legionnaires disease). The works cover fire station buildings across the whole of Hampshire, from Ringwood to Stockbridge and Southsea to Kingsclere.

Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by the inhalation of small droplets of contaminated water containing Legionella. All man-made hot and cold water systems are likely to provide an environment where Legionella can grow. By carrying out the legionella remedial works Anchor engineers will help to ensure that the risk of exposure is eradicated by preventing the bacteria from multiplying in a system.
